چکیده

This paper describes two transceiver architectures for a transmission system using Impulse Radio Ultrawideband, having innovative techniques for receiver synchronization and bit detection. Both systems have low complexity and are suitable for implementation using CMOS technology. Two distinct techniques for UWB non-coherent transceivers are focused: the Transmitted-Reference (TR) technique with Pulse Position Modulation with a new optimised receiver in order to mitigate the noise and use the energy of the received multipath components; and a new technique that uses Pulse Period Variation (PPV). Both systems are non-coherent and so they adopt autocorrelation receivers as suboptimal receiver technique, which offers a good performance and a simple structure. Simulations are carried out in the presence of Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and multipath fading channels, and comparisons are made to demonstrate the performance improvement of the optimised autocorrelation receivers.

On the achievable rates of ultra-wideband PPM with non-coherent detection in multipath environments

In this work we investigate the achievable rates of ultra-wideband (UWB) systems using a m-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) with non-coherent receivers in multipath fading environments. We derive a random coding bound on the achievable information rates and highlight the influence of system parameters (bandwidth, delay spread). We also investigate the effect of the use of hard decisions prio...

An All-Digital Transmitter for Pulsed Ultra-Wideband Communication

Applications like sensor networks, medical monitoring, and asset tracking have led to a demand for energy-efficient and low-cost wireless transceivers. These types of applications typically require low effective data rates, thus providing an opportunity to employ simple modulation schemes and aggressive duty-cycling. Due to their inherently duty-cycled nature, pulse-based Ultra-Wideband (UWB) s...

Poster Abstract: Combining Positioning & Communication Using Ultra Wideband Transceivers

A new generation of ultra wide band (UWB) communication transceivers are becoming available that supports both positioning and communication tasks. Transceiver manufacturers envision that communication and positioning features are used separately and asymmetrically. We believe that this is an unnecessary restriction of the available hardware and that positioning and communication tasks can be a...

Through-Wall Person Localization Using Transceivers in Motion

We develop novel methods for device-free localization (DFL) using transceivers in motion.
